A tub chair is an upholstered or caned seat featuring a rounded, enclosing back that curves downward into the arms. This continuous line creates a distinct barrel shape designed to shelter the sitter from drafts.

How do I care for leather upholstery?

Leather upholstery on these chairs benefits from regular dusting and occasional treatment with specialist leather balms to maintain flexibility. Keeping the hide away from direct heat sources prevents the material from drying out and cracking over time.

Are these chairs suitable for a modern desk?

Many Edwardian and Victorian variants were built specifically for office and library use, making them practical for modern writing desks. Swivel and revolving versions offer adjustable movement while retaining a traditional appearance.

How do I distinguish Edwardian from Victorian pieces?

Victorian examples tend to display heavier proportions, darker finishes, and deep buttoned upholstery or substantial woodwork. Edwardian pieces often appear lighter in scale, occasionally featuring delicate satinwood inlay or brighter polished mahogany surfaces.
