What periods do these pieces cover?

The selections span from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries through the Edwardian and Art Deco eras up to mid-century modern pieces. Items reflect specific historical aesthetics including Georgian, Regency, and Victorian movements alongside mid-century creations.

How do I identify different print types?

Prints range from early engravings and aquatints to lithographs and advertising posters. Close examination reveals the underlying printing dots, plate marks, or hand-applied pigments. Understanding the production technique helps distinguish original antique prints from later reproductions.

What framing materials are used?

Frames consist primarily of wood, gilt wood, and specialised materials like cork or inlaid woodwork. Many retain their original period framing which complements the artwork. Different styles reflect the prevailing tastes of their respective eras, from Hogarth frames to carved regional woodwork.

How should I hang heavy frames?

Substantial pieces require appropriate wall fixings that match the weight of the wood, glass, and canvas. Ensuring secure support protects both the frame structure and the wall. Consulting professional framing advice helps maintain the structural integrity of antique wall decor.
