Traditional Table with Drawer
When you search for a traditional table with drawer, you encounter a wide variety of domestic furniture designed for utility and surface use. Pieces span multiple centuries, ranging from the seventeenth century through the Georgian, Victorian, and Edwardian eras.
The selections on this page primarily encompass side tables, writing desks, and farmhouse dining tables featuring built-in compartments. Materials vary widely, reflecting the regional workshops and stylistic revivals of their respective periods.
Forms extend from compact coffee and corner tables to large freestanding pedestal desks and kitchen refectory tables. Each piece incorporates at least one functional drawer integrated into the apron or carcass.
How they were made
Cabinet makers constructed these tables using solid hardwoods and softwoods such as oak, mahogany, walnut, pine, and fruitwood. Timber selection often dictated the regional origin and intended function of the piece, from robust oak farmhouse tables to finely figured mahogany writing desks.
Joinery techniques relied on traditional hand-cut methods suited to the period, while hardware such as brass swan neck handles and leather writing inserts added functional detail. Surfaces were finished with wax, polish, or natural oils to highlight the grain of the wood.
