What periods do these small walnut chests come from?

The pieces span several distinct eras, including Victorian, Edwardian, Aesthetic Movement, and Art Deco styles. Each period brings specific design characteristics to the silhouette and handle choices. Dates range from the mid-nineteenth century through to the 1930s, showing shifts in taste from ornate carving to streamlined geometric forms.

Where are small walnut chests typically used?

Buyers commonly place these compact units beside a bed as nightstands or bedside cabinets. Their modest dimensions make them suitable for smaller rooms requiring surface space and enclosed drawer storage. The height and depth allow them to function comfortably alongside standard bedframes without dominating the room.

How do I identify burr walnut?

Burr walnut is recognizable by its distinctive swirling grain patterns and circular cluster figures. This decorative veneer comes from tree growths rather than straight timber boards. Cabinetmakers applied these figured sheets to the most prominent surfaces, such as drawer fronts, to showcase the natural variation in the wood.

Are these chests usually found as pairs?

Many of the listed items appear as matched pairs, particularly those intended for use as bedside tables. Finding two matching cabinets together is common for bedroom furniture of these periods. Pairs offer symmetrical placement on either side of a bed, sharing identical wood tones, hardware, and stylistic details.
