Where should I place a display case?

These cabinets suit drawing rooms, dining spaces and hallways where natural light illuminates the glazed sections. Corner models fit neatly into unused angles of a room while saving floor space. Positioning the cabinet away from direct sunlight protects both the timber finish and the displayed collection from fading over time.

How do I care for satinwood and mahogany?

Regular dusting with a soft, dry cloth maintains the polished sheen of the timber surfaces. Avoiding excessive moisture and harsh chemical cleaning products preserves the delicate wood inlay. Applying a traditional beeswax polish occasionally nourishes the grain and enhances the natural colour of the wood.

How do I distinguish Edwardian pieces from earlier Victorian examples?

Edwardian sheraton revival pieces often display lighter satinwood elements and delicate painted ornamentation reflecting a revival of eighteenth-century taste. Victorian examples tend toward heavier proportions and deeper mahogany tones with robust marquetry. Construction details and secondary woods inside the carcase also provide clues to the approximate date of manufacture.
