What defines Scandinavian folk furniture?

These pieces originate from rural northern European traditions, focusing on domestic utility and simple wooden construction. They rely heavily on native timber and traditional painted finishes. Items range from everyday seating like benches and armchairs to storage solutions such as cupboards and marriage chests.

How do I care for painted pine furniture?

Painted wooden surfaces respond best to stable indoor humidity and protection from direct sunlight. Dust gently with a dry cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners that might lift historic paint layers. Keep pieces away from direct heat sources to prevent the pine from drying out or splitting over time.

What periods do these pieces come from?

The inventory largely spans the nineteenth century, capturing periods from early Georgian influences through Victorian times and into the early twentieth century. Dates often reflect regional Scandinavian craftsmanship traditions. Design influences range from simple rustic farmhouse styles to refined Gustavian aesthetics.
