Are these lamps safe to use today?

Most vintage lamps arrive with their original vintage wiring, which often requires professional rewiring to meet modern electrical safety standards before regular use. A qualified electrician can easily update the internal cord and plug while preserving the external vintage components and switches.

How do I adjust the arms?

Many examples utilise articulated arms with internal springs or external tension joints designed to angle the light source across a workspace. Take care to loosen any adjustment screws before moving rigid joints to avoid straining the original metal components.

What bulbs should I use?

Standard modern screw or bayonet LED bulbs that match the original socket size and wattage limits are suitable for daily illumination. Choosing a low-heat LED bulb protects vintage lamp shades and internal wiring from thermal damage over prolonged periods.

How do I clean chrome plating?

Dust the surface regularly with a soft dry cloth and remove minor tarnishing with a specialist non-abrasive metal polish. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive pads that can strip away the thin historical chrome layer from the underlying metal.
