How were sofa tables used originally?

These tables stood in the centre of rooms or directly in front of sofas to hold books, writing materials, or tea. The drop leaves allowed the surface area to expand or contract depending on the immediate domestic requirement.

How do I live with a sofa table?

A sofa table functions exceptionally well as a behind-the-sofa console, a narrow desk, or a freestanding hall table. The drop leaves can remain down to save space or lift up when additional surface area is needed.
