What rooms suit an oval marble table?

These tables find places in sitting rooms as centre or lamp tables where the curved edge softens the room's layout. Smaller bedside versions fit into bedrooms alongside cabinets. Larger gueridon tables occupy entrance halls or drawing rooms, providing a sturdy surface for decorative objects.

How do I care for the marble top?

The stone surface requires simple wiping with a damp cloth and mild soap to remove dust and daily marks. Acidic liquids can etch polished stone if left unattended. Waxing the wooden base protects the timber frame while leaving the marble top clear of heavy polishes.

How do I identify a French Louis XVI style table?

Louis XVI style pieces display straight tapering legs, often fluted, contrasting with the curved cabriole supports of earlier periods. Neoclassical motifs and symmetrical mounts appear frequently on these frames. Cabinetmakers working in this manner emphasised geometric restraint and balanced proportions.

What is an Aesthetic Movement table?

Aesthetic Movement pieces from the late nineteenth century favour ebonised wood and simpler lines influenced by Japanese design. These items often incorporate slate or marble inserts into the top surface. Such tables reject heavy Victorian ornamentation in favour of starker forms and contrasting materials.
