Where did these cabinets sit in the home?

These pieces occupied principal reception rooms like drawing rooms and formal parlours, where hosts displayed fine porcelain and decorative objects to visiting guests. Their low profile ensured they did not obstruct window light. They served both as storage for tableware and as focal display furniture against long walls or between windows.

How do I care for walnut veneer?

Maintain stable room humidity away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight to prevent the timber veneers from drying or splitting. Dust gently with a dry cloth and avoid silicone polishes. Wax can be applied sparingly to nourish the polished surface without building up heavy residues over the marquetry.

Are original marble tops common?

Many credenzas and side cabinets feature fitted white or coloured marble slabs on their upper surfaces. These stone tops provided durable, heat-resistant ledges for serving or displaying items. Such tops are typically heavy and loose-laid onto the timber carcase rather than permanently fixed.
