Common subjects include bustling Mediterranean harbours, French fishing ports, industrial docks and quiet coastal quays. Artists frequently focus on ships, unloading vessels, architectural fronts and the changing light on water.

Many listings include period frames, such as giltwood or moulded wood surrounds that match the era of the canvas. Specific frame materials vary by piece, reflecting the framing traditions of the artist's working period.
