What is a partners desk?

A partners desk is a substantial double sided writing table designed with drawer and cupboard storage accessible from both operational fronts. These pieces allowed two individuals to sit opposite each other and were traditionally utilised in professional offices or large estate libraries.

Which woods were used by this maker?

Makers constructed these pieces using primary cabinet timbers such as mahogany, walnut, burr walnut, oak, and satinwood. Surfaces often incorporated contrasting inlay work alongside inset tooled leather writing panels.

How do I date these desks?

Dating relies upon stylistic markers spanning the Victorian, Edwardian, and early twentieth century periods, such as Sheraton revival motifs or Art Nouveau influences. Structural details and timber selection further assist in narrowing the decade of production.
