What is a chevet table?

A chevet table is a small bedside cabinet or table designed to hold personal items next to the bed. These pieces typically provide enclosed storage through drawers or cupboards while maintaining a decorative presence.

Are these tables sold in pairs?

Many listings feature matched pairs of tables, though single examples also appear on the market. Pairs are particularly sought after for balancing symmetrical bedroom layouts on either side of a bed.

What materials are typical?

Construction relies predominantly on hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, and rosewood, often paired with contrasting veneer work. Many examples incorporate marble tops and brass or ormolu mounts to enhance the neoclassical appearance.

How do I spot revival pieces?

Revival pieces draw on eighteenth-century neoclassical design principles, featuring straight tapered legs and symmetrical ornamentation. Most examples date from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries rather than the original period of the French monarchy.
