How many people can sit at these tables?

Many of these large formats comfortably seat between six and twelve diners when fully opened. The actual seating capacity depends on the length of the central board and the clearance provided by the leg configuration underneath.

Are drop leaf tables stable enough for daily dining?

The sturdy gateleg actions and robust timber framing ensure reliable support for everyday meals. Properly aligned swing legs bear the downward pressure of the folding leaves just as effectively as fixed table legs.

How do I tell an 18th-century table from a later revival?

Examination of the timber fixings, hand-cut joinery, and the natural ageing of the wood reveals the period of manufacture. Revival pieces often utilise machine-sawn components and standardised hardware that differ from older hand-wrought construction methods.

How do I care for antique wood surfaces?

Routine maintenance involves dusting with a soft cloth and avoiding excessive moisture or direct sunlight. Occasional applications of appropriate wax help nourish the timber and preserve the natural finish over time.
