What periods do these artworks cover?

The pieces span from the nineteenth century through the 1960s, encompassing Victorian, Edwardian, and mid-century movements. Works reflect the shifting aesthetic priorities of these decades, moving from traditional landscape painting towards modernism and impressionist techniques.

What materials are used in these works?

Artists employed oil paint, watercolour, gouache, charcoal, and pastel upon supports such as canvas, paper, wood, and board. These mediums are paired with wooden surrounds and glass to secure and display the composition.

How do I hang grey framed art?

Ensure your wall fixings match the weight of the wooden frame and glass enclosure. Position the piece at eye level to maintain proper balance within your room. Keep framed works away from direct sunlight and damp environments to protect the painted or drawn surface.

How do I identify different painting styles?

Look at the application of pigment and the treatment of light across the canvas or paper. Impressionist works rely on visible brushwork, while traditional pieces focus on blended detail. Subject matter also indicates style, with modernist pieces favouring simplified forms and wartime or industrial scenes.
