How do I care for a lacquered lamp?

Dust gently with a dry, soft cloth to protect the delicate surface layer. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners that can strip the lacquer or gilt. Keep the piece out of direct sunlight to prevent the painted details and gold leaf from fading over time.

Are these lamps rewired for modern use?

Many listings note that the pieces have been rewired to meet contemporary electrical standards. It remains sensible to have a qualified electrician inspect antique wiring before daily use. Original fittings are sometimes retained for aesthetic reasons, which may require professional adaptation for modern bulbs.

What periods do these lamps come from?

The pieces span the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, including Victorian and Edwardian examples. The nineteen-twenties represent a significant portion of the painted wooden and Chinoiserie inventory. Earlier nineteenth-century items often feature porcelain, bronze, or tea canister conversions.

How do I identify Chinoiserie style?

Chinoiserie pieces typically display motifs inspired by Chinese art, such as figures, pavilions, and landscapes rendered in gold on a dark background. Lacquered wood and toleware are common mediums for this decorative approach. The style gained popularity across various European revivals during the Victorian and Edwardian periods.
