Where should I place a gilt settee?

A gilt settee suits formal drawing rooms, large hallways, or master bedrooms as a statement focal point. Position it against a plain wall to highlight the carved wooden frame. Ensure the surrounding decor complements the metallic finish without competing with the ornate woodcarving.

How do I identify a revival style?

Revival pieces replicate earlier eighteenth century aesthetics using nineteenth century manufacturing techniques and materials. Look at the timber preparation and joinery clues to date the physical object. Stylistic markers like exaggerated curves and heavy gilding often point to nineteenth century interpretations rather than original period production.

Are these sofas comfortable for daily use?

These pieces are built with firm nineteenth century upholstery methods intended for formal reception rooms rather than lounging. They offer upright support suitable for sitting during social gatherings. Consider adding supportive cushions if you plan to use the seating for extended periods.

What maintenance does giltwood require?

Giltwood surfaces require gentle dusting with a soft, dry cloth to protect the delicate gold leaf finish. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners and moisture which can damage the metallic coating. Keep the timber away from direct sunlight and rapid temperature fluctuations to prevent wood movement.
