How do I identify a true period piece?

Examine the timber grain, construction methods, and secondary woods used inside drawers or beneath tabletops. Genuine eighteenth and nineteenth-century items exhibit hand-cut joints and timber ageing consistent with their stated era. Revival pieces from later decades often imitate these classical forms using machine-assisted joinery while retaining traditional silhouettes and mahogany veneers.

What rooms suit pedestal dining tables?

Multi-pillar extending tables suit large dining rooms and open-plan spaces where their length can be fully appreciated. The pedestal configuration provides ample legroom for seated guests compared to traditional four-leg tables. Smaller single-pedestal wine tables or lamp tables fit neatly beside seating in drawing rooms or studies as convenient display surfaces.

How should I care for mahogany furniture?

Maintain mahogany surfaces by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and avoiding placement near direct heat sources or strong sunlight. These precautions prevent the rich timber from drying out or fading over time. Treat leather inserts on desks with specialised balms to keep the material supple and preserve the original writing surface.

Why choose a partners desk?

Partners desks offer generous workspace and storage accessible from both sides through pedestals fitted with drawers and cupboards. They function effectively as central room pieces rather than being pushed flat against a wall. The substantial proportions and classical styling bring an authoritative presence to home studies and libraries.
