How do these tables work?

These tables are built in graduating sizes so the smaller surfaces slide neatly beneath the largest one. This nesting design allows you to store multiple tables in the footprint of just one. When guests arrive, you pull the individual tables out to place around the room for drinks or lamps. Afterwards, they stack back together compactly.

A quartetto is a specific term for a nest of four tables rather than three. The name reflects the grouping of four graduated pieces designed to stack together. Cabinet makers produced these sets during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries using timbers like mahogany and satinwood.

Were these made in the Georgian period?

While the style draws inspiration from the Georgian era, many surviving examples date from the Victorian, Edwardian, and early twentieth century periods. Maker revivals during the Edwardian era frequently recreated these classic stacking designs using traditional techniques and polished mahogany.

Where should I place them?

These tables suit sitting rooms and drawing rooms where surface space is needed near seating. They function well beside armchairs or sofas as lamp or coffee tables. Because they stack away, they fit neatly into corners or empty wall spaces when not in active use.
