How do I choose the right size?

Measure your available floor space and check the internal dimensions of the bed frame against modern mattress standards, as older French sizing can vary slightly from contemporary UK metrics. Account for the height of both the headboard and footboard to ensure they clear bedroom windows, low ceilings, and do not overwhelm smaller rooms.

Can modern mattresses fit these beds?

Many antique French frames require custom mattress sizes or minor adjustments to the internal side rails to accommodate standard modern slats and bases securely. Consult the dealer regarding the internal width and length before purchasing modern bedding components to ensure a correct and stable fit.

How do I care for walnut wood?

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and avoiding placement near direct heat sources or strong sunlight that can dry out the walnut veneer. Apply a quality beeswax polish sparingly to nourish the grain and preserve the historic patina without building up excessive residue.

How do I identify the period?

Examine the stylistic cues, such as heavy organic carvings indicating nineteenth-century revival periods versus geometric symmetry pointing toward 1930s Art Deco. Look closely at construction marks, screw types, and the method of joint assembly to confirm whether the piece originates from the Victorian era or the Edwardian period.
