What is an architectural elevation?

An architectural elevation is a technical drawing or print showing the exterior facade of a building from a direct, straight-on viewpoint. It records proportions, window placements and decorative elements without perspective distortion. Historically, architects drew elevations to communicate their precise vision to builders and patrons. Framed examples turn these technical blueprints into decorative wall art.

How old are these framed pieces?

The pieces available span from the eighteenth century up to the early twentieth century. This includes eighteenth-century engravings, nineteenth-century academic drawings and 1920s prints. Each period reflects the prevailing design theories of its time, from neoclassical symmetry to Victorian gothic revival. The dating depends on the specific medium and the inscribed details on the paper.

Where should I hang an architectural drawing?

These framed works suit studies, home offices, libraries and hallways where detailed imagery can be appreciated up close. Their linear qualities complement both traditional period interiors and clean, modern spaces. Keep them away from direct sunlight to protect the fragile paper, ink and watercolour pigments from fading over time.

Are these works original or reproductions?

The collection includes both hand-drawn original works and period-produced prints or lithographs. Original drawings feature unique graphite, ink or watercolour lines created directly by the artist's hand. Period engravings and lithographs were produced in limited quantities during their respective eras for study or publication. Each listing specifies whether the item is an original drawing or a period print.
