What is a four drawer commode used for?

These pieces provide domestic storage for clothing and linens within bedrooms or hallways. Their stacked drawer configuration accommodates folded garments while maintaining a compact footprint against a wall. Historically, such chests served similar organizational purposes in private chambers and formal entertaining spaces alike.

How do I style a commode in a modern room?

The rich grain of mahogany or walnut contrasts effectively with contemporary interior finishes. Positioning the piece in a bedroom or living area brings traditional craft into everyday use.

How do I identify a Georgian commode?

Georgian pieces typically employ solid mahogany or oak with hand-cut dovetails on the drawer interiors. Look for proportions, traditional bracket feet or stubby legs, and period brass drop handles. Interior construction details often reveal regional British or continental workshop traditions from the eighteenth century.
