How do partners desks differ?

Partners desks are built to be accessed from both sides, featuring matching drawer banks or cupboards on the front and reverse. They were originally utilised in banks, libraries, and large estate offices where two individuals needed workspace simultaneously. These double-sided configurations are generally larger than standard single-sided pedestal desks.

How do I care for leather desk inserts?

Leather writing surfaces require regular dusting with a soft, dry cloth to prevent grit from damaging the hide. Conditioning balms can be applied periodically to keep the leather supple and prevent cracking. Avoid placing damp glasses or hot cups directly on the antique leather surface.

How do I identify the period?

Period identification relies on examining the construction methods, timber choices, and decorative hardware. Georgian pieces often display restrained mahogany veneers and fine bracket feet, while Victorian examples tend to be heavier with moulded drawer fronts. Later Edwardian and Art Deco versions introduce roll-top mechanisms or streamlined burr walnut veneers.
