How do I dismantle a large wardrobe?

Most large wardrobes dismantle into modular sections consisting of a cornice, base, two sides, and central door frames or back panels. Securing screws and wooden pegs must be removed methodically before lifting panels apart. Marking each joint with chalk helps ensure proper realignment when reassembling the piece in a new room.

What is a combination wardrobe?

A combination wardrobe integrates hanging compartments with banks of drawers, linen slides, or small cupboards within the same carcase. This layout provides versatile storage for folded garments alongside long coats and dresses. Such pieces often take the form of compactums or triple-door configurations.

How do I care for antique mirror glass?

Cleaning antique mirror glass requires a soft cloth and a gentle glass cleaner sprayed onto the cloth rather than directly onto the glass. This prevents moisture from seeping behind the silvering layer along the edges. Avoid abrasive pads or harsh chemical sprays that can damage the old glass surface and surrounding wooden frame.

Can these wardrobes fit modern bedrooms?

These wardrobes require careful measurement of ceiling height and floor space, as many Edwardian and Victorian pieces are exceptionally tall and deep. Ceiling clearances must accommodate the decorative cornice during assembly. Checking doorway widths in your home ensures the individual panels can enter the room before final assembly.
