What is a centrepiece bowl?

A centrepiece bowl is a decorative vessel designed to sit in the middle of a table or sideboard as a focal point. They were traditionally used to hold fruit, flowers, or simply to display fine glass. Today, they function as standalone sculptural objects that bring colour and historic craftsmanship into an interior space.

Ormolu refers to gilded bronze mounts attached to decorative glass and porcelain objects during the nineteenth century and earlier. The bronze is cast into intricate shapes and finished with a layer of gold. This material adds structural support and visual weight to delicate glass bowls and dishes.

How do I care for antique glass?

Antique glass requires gentle cleaning with lukewarm water and a mild detergent using a soft cloth. Avoid submerging metal-mounted pieces in water to protect the bronze or silver plate. Keep these bowls away from direct sunlight and sudden temperature changes to preserve the material.
