Where were these chests placed originally?

These pieces served primarily in bedrooms and private chambers to hold garments and linens. Their curved profiles allowed them to sit smoothly against walls while softening the geometry of the room. Smaller iterations functioned beside beds or within dressing rooms, offering accessible storage for smaller personal items and accessories.

How do I identify a Regency period piece?

Regency examples typically exhibit restrained classical proportions combined with striking timber figure and contrasting stringing. Cabinet makers of this era favoured clean architectural lines paired with bold mahogany veneers. Hardware on these pieces often includes brass ring pulls or decorative backplates that reflect the neoclassical taste of the early nineteenth century.

How do I care for mahogany surfaces?

Maintain the wood by applying traditional beeswax polish sparingly and buffing with a soft cloth. Avoid placing timber furniture in direct sunlight or near heat sources to prevent the veneer from drying out. Keep humidity levels stable within the room to protect the underlying carcase and ensure the curved drawers continue to open smoothly.
