Where should a pedestal desk be placed?

These large desks work best when positioned freestanding in the middle of a room, especially if they have finished backs. They also anchor effectively against a study wall when floor space requires a more traditional perimeter layout.

What maintenance do leather desk tops need?

Leather inserts benefit from occasional treatment with specialised leather balms to maintain flexibility and prevent the surface from drying out. Harsh chemical cleaners should be avoided to preserve any historic gilt tooling along the perimeter borders.

How do I identify Victorian oak desks?

Victorian oak desks typically display dark patination, robust structural proportions, and hand-carved decorative motifs reflecting revivalist tastes. Drawer interiors on these pieces generally utilise secondary woods like pine or oak with traditional hand-cut dovetail joints.
