How do I fit modern mattresses?

Older wooden frames often require bespoke mattress dimensions or custom base inserts to fit standard modern sizes correctly. Buyers should verify internal rail measurements before purchasing bedding. Many antique frames accommodate standard widths with minor adjustments to internal slats or base supports. Consulting the specific dimensions listed prevents fitting issues.

How do I care for mahogany?

Maintaining nineteenth century mahogany requires stable room humidity to prevent the dense timber from splitting or warping. Regular dusting with a soft cloth preserves the natural sheen of the polished wood. Avoid placing wooden frames near direct heat sources or strong sunlight which can fade the reddish grain. Occasional light waxing nourishes the dry surface without building up residue.

How are these beds dismantled?

Most large nineteenth century frames utilise standard bed bolts and tenon joints to secure the heavy rails to the head and foot boards. This construction method allows the entire structure to be taken apart for transport. Careful handling of the carved posts and veneered panels is essential during relocation to protect the joints. Professional installation ensures the massive wooden components align correctly.
