How do I choose the right size?

Check the internal dimensions of the wooden frame against standard mattress sizes before purchasing. Antique dimensions can vary slightly from modern manufacturing standards. Ensure that the rails and headboard will fit comfortably within your bedroom layout without obstructing access or surrounding furniture.

Are these beds easy to assemble?

Most antique wooden bed frames utilise traditional slot-in or bolt-together rail systems. They require basic tools and careful alignment during setup to keep the structure square. Having two people helps manage the weight of solid mahogany or walnut components safely during assembly.

How do I care for the wood?

Dust the timber regularly with a soft, dry cloth to prevent particulate build-up. Avoid placing the bedstead in direct sunlight or near heat sources to protect the polish and prevent wood splitting. Apply a quality beeswax periodically if the finish appears dry, rubbing it gently along the grain.

Can I use a modern mattress?

Many antique frames accommodate modern mattresses, provided the internal length and width match standard measurements. Slats or modern base inserts can often be added safely to support contemporary spring or foam cores. Verify the internal clearance depth to ensure your mattress sits correctly within the side rails.
