What is a blue white porcelain lamp?

A blue white porcelain lamp is a converted antique vessel, such as a ginger jar or vase, fitted for domestic electrical use. These pieces combine historic ceramic craftsmanship with modern lighting function. Most examples originate from Asian export kilns or European potteries, utilising cobalt blue pigments painted under a clear glaze on ceramic bodies.

Are these lamps wired for modern use?

The listings on this page indicate vessels that have been successfully converted into table lamps. They are intended for modern domestic interiors while preserving their historic ceramic bases. Buyers often find these lamps paired with handmade fabric or silk shades resting upon supportive brass or gilt bronze bases.

How do Delft and Asian lamps differ?

Delft lamps originate from European potteries attempting to replicate imported Asian ceramics during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. They display distinct European interpretations of blue and white painted motifs. Asian pieces, including Japanese Arita and Chinese export wares, showcase traditional Eastern forms such as prunus blossom vases and crackleware ginger jars.
