How do I clean an antique wool rug?

Professional specialist cleaning is essential for antique wool and cotton textiles to protect natural dyes and fragile foundations. Regular gentle vacuuming without a beater bar removes surface grit without pulling at the wool pile.

Where were these carpets originally made?

Origin points include various Persian provinces such as Khorasan, Azerbaijan, and Veramin, alongside Caucasian weaving centres. Nomadic tribes and urban workshop weavers alike contributed the regional designs recorded in these historical listings.

Are these rugs suitable for high traffic areas?

The dense wool construction and sturdy cotton foundations of nineteenth-century room carpets provide substantial natural durability. Placing a quality rug underlay beneath the textile prevents slippage and absorbs foot impact to protect the antique fibres.

How do I distinguish Heriz from Tabriz carpets?

Heriz carpets typically display bold, angular geometric medallions with large-scale corner spandrels woven on sturdy cotton foundations. Tabriz carpets frequently showcase more curvilinear floral arrangements, finer knot densities, and master workshop signatures.
