Where should I place a large carpet?

These substantial pieces anchor high-traffic living rooms, dining spaces, or large entrance halls where their geometric patterns can remain fully visible. Ensure adequate clearance around furniture placement so the central medallion and distinctive borders display without obstruction.

How do I care for antique wool rugs?

Routine maintenance requires gentle vacuuming without rotary brush attachments to protect the hand-spun wool pile from unnecessary friction. Professional specialist cleaning is recommended every few years to remove embedded dust safely without damaging the foundation.

How can I distinguish a Serapi from a standard Heriz?

Serapi pieces generally date from the nineteenth century and exhibit a lighter, more open field composition with finer knot density. Standard Heriz carpets from later decades tend toward bolder, darker geometries and denser overall floral and vine ornamentation.

Why do dimensions vary so much?

Traditional village weavers worked on vertical wooden looms sized according to available domestic space rather than standardised industrial measurements. Consequently, antique dimensions frequently deviate from modern sizing conventions, reflecting the individual scale of each workshop.
