Are these lamps converted from old tables?

Many listings combine small side tables, occasional tables, and bedside cabinets with lamp fixtures, while others utilise dedicated turned wooden lamp bases from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Buyers will find both purpose-built wooden lamp bases and adapted furniture pieces functioning as bedside lighting.

How do I date an antique wooden lamp?

Dating relies on identifying the prevailing style, timber choices, and construction methods characteristic of periods like the Georgian era, Victorian period, Edwardian years, or Art Deco movement. Cabinetmaking techniques and decorative motifs such as marquetry, ormolu, or specific turning styles provide reliable chronological markers.

What woods were commonly used?

Mahogany, oak, and walnut dominate the listed furniture and lamp bases, alongside fruitwood, carved wood, and giltwood accents. These dense hardwoods provided durable structures for bedside tables and stable bases for electrical fittings.

Do bedside lamps come in pairs?

The inventory includes numerous matched pairs of lamp tables, bedside chests, and carved wooden lamp bases originating from the Georgian period through the 1930s. Pairs offer symmetrical placement on either side of a bed within a bedroom scheme.
