What is an antique cocktail glasses set?

An antique cocktail glasses set is a matched collection of vessels designed for serving alcoholic drinks, typically dating from the late nineteenth century to the mid-twentieth century. These groupings often include coupes, wine glasses, decanters and serving trays. Such sets reflect the social habits of periods like the Edwardian era and the Art Deco 1930s. They provide a unified aesthetic for home bar service.

How were these glasses used originally?

These sets served alcoholic beverages during formal dinners, garden parties and cocktail hours. Specific glasses accommodated champagne, liqueurs, wine and mixed drinks. Ice buckets, shakers and decanters facilitated the preparation and presentation of spirits at home. The inclusion of matching jugs and trays allowed hosts to serve guests efficiently.

How do I care for antique glass?

Antique glassware requires gentle hand washing in warm water with mild detergent. Avoid sudden temperature changes to prevent cracking. Silver-plated components should be polished with non-abrasive cleaners formulated for plated metals. Store sets securely to protect rims and stems from chipping.

How do I identify Art Deco sets?

Art Deco cocktail sets typically date from around 1930 and feature geometric patterns, clean lines and stylised motifs. Common materials include moulded Czech glass, enamelled surfaces and hammered silver plate. Enamelled decanter sets and sets with 'Jazz Man' or geometric decoration exemplify this aesthetic. They often incorporate contrasting colours like blue, black and silver.
