Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Regency reading stand is an exceptional piece of library furniture fashioned from rich dark brown flame mahogany with brass castors. The design incorporates four open tiers supported by well-turned columns, complemented by a slanted top featuring a fixed retaining lip and two small drawers fitted with simple wooden knobs. The timber exhibits striking dark grain figures across the surfaces, while the brass castors show subtle signs of age with light tarnish. Measuring 125.2 cm high by 59.7 cm wide and 43.8 cm deep, the unit provides generous display and storage capacity within a compact footprint. In a modern home, this practical reading stand works well in an empty corner of a study, home office, or library for holding reference books, magazines, or decorative items. The traditional aesthetic integrates seamlessly into classic interiors, offering both functional shelving and a convenient angled surface for reading or writing. The solid construction and compact proportions make it an adaptable addition to domestic spaces requiring organised surface area without occupying excessive floor space.

FAQs

A Regency reading stand is an early nineteenth-century piece of library furniture designed to hold open books or manuscripts at an ergonomic height, frequently incorporating open shelving and drawers.

These stands were predominantly constructed from dense timbers such as mahogany or rosewood, using hand-cut dovetail joinery, turned timber supports, and brass castors.

Authentic period examples feature hand-turned upright supports, natural wood shrinkage along timber grain lines, period-appropriate brass fittings, and hand-joined drawer construction.

Place the stand in a home library, office, or drawing room alcove, using the sloped top section to present an open folio or art volume while placing books on the lower tier shelves.

Dust the surfaces regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish annually to protect the original finish, keeping the piece away from direct heat sources.
