This Regency period gentleman's hanging wardrobe stands 208 cm high, 107 cm wide, and 56 cm deep. The piece is constructed from timber with a warm brown flame mahogany finish, showing varied grain patterns across the solid lower panels and upright frames. A moulded cornice tops the wardrobe above a pair of upright doors, while a plain plinth base supports the main body. The upper sections of the doors contain brass wire mesh grilles, and a tall vertical brass strip runs down the meeting stile between the doors. Inside, the wardrobe provides a hanging rail for garments, making it suitable for bedroom placement to store clothing. The exterior presents a grand Regency design with symmetrical door panels and fine metalwork details. The item remains in original condition, displaying the authentic characteristics of its period through the timber figuring and metal wirework.

Regency period wardrobes, dating from approximately 1810 to 1830, are distinguished by classical proportions, symmetry, and architectural influence. They typically feature flame mahogany veneers, moulded cornices, and decorative elements such as brass grilles or beaded mouldings.

Cabinetmakers primarily utilised solid mahogany and figure-rich mahogany veneers imported from the West Indies. Accents often incorporated brass grilles, silk fabric linings, turned timber handles, and pine or oak secondary timber structures.

Authentic Regency furniture displays hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-planed back panels, and period-correct iron or brass hardware. The timber often shows historic patination and unevenness consistent with hand-sawing on secondary interior boards.

A large mahogany wardrobe functions effectively as a focal piece in a primary bedroom, dressing room, or expansive hallway. Modern designers pair these dark wood structures with lighter wall treatments and contemporary soft furnishings to balance visual weight.

Maintain timber surfaces by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying a beeswax polish annually in the direction of the grain. Keep the cabinet clear of direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying, warping, or fading of the timber finish.
