This nineteenth-century side table is an authentic piece from the Aesthetic Movement, bearing the distinct influence of Moorish design associated with Liberty & Co. Made from solid timber finished in a smooth black ebonised polish, the rectangular unit stands on four legs connected by shaped, cusped Moorish arches and terminates in simple block feet. The top section is defined by a moulded edge above four inset panels of turned beadwork lattice on all sides, creating a decorative openwork visual effect. A minor crack runs across the polished top surface, showing signs of natural age and wear. Measuring 60 cm high, 42 cm wide and 42 cm deep, the compact stand is suited for placement at the end of a sofa or beside an armchair as an occasional lamp table or plant stand in a living room, hallway or study. Its dark finish and geometric turned elements complement Victorian, Gothic or eclectic interior schemes where surface space is needed within a smaller footprint.

Moorish Revival furniture from the late nineteenth century incorporates design elements from Islamic architecture, such as intricate lattice turned beadwork (mashrabiya) panels, cusped horseshoe arches, and geometric profiles, often executed in ebonised or dark woods.

These tables were typically crafted from hardwoods such as beech, walnut, or fruitwood, which were ebonised using dark stains or lacquers. Construction relied on traditional mortise and tenon joinery alongside hand-turned spindle lattices.

Authentic period pieces show evidence of genuine age, such as slight shrinkage along wood grain lines, wear to the ebonised finish on edges, and crisp, hand-finished joinery inside the lattice frame.

Place the table as an accent piece beside structured upholstery, such as a leather sofa or velvet armchair, allowing its intricate geometric silhouette to contrast against neutral walls.

Dust regularly using a soft dry microfibre cloth. To preserve the original finish, apply a high-quality natural beeswax sparingly once or twice a year and avoid positioning near direct heat sources.
