Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, is characterised by lighter proportions, refined craftsmanship, and a revival of classical eighteenth-century motifs often combined with delicate stringing and marquetry.

Cabinet makers of the Edwardian era frequently utilised dense hardwoods such as mahogany and satinwood, often accentuating surfaces with contrasting wood veneers, boxwood stringing, and mother-of-pearl inlay.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period-appropriate joinery methods, natural ageing such as subtle patination on the timber, hand-cut veneer work, and structural characteristics consistent with early twentieth-century manufacturing techniques.

This piece works effectively as an occasional accent table in a contemporary living space, providing functional surface area while introducing historical texture and warmth through polished timber.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying a traditional beeswax polish to nourish the wood.
