A lowboy is a small wooden table with drawers, typically used as a dressing table or side table, which first appeared in late 17th-century England and gained widespread popularity throughout the Georgian era.

Authentic period lowboys are typically constructed from dense hardwoods like mahogany, oak, or walnut, featuring traditional joinery such as hand-cut dovetails on the drawer construction and mortise-and-tenon frame joints.

Authenticity is assessed by examining timber grain, hand-cut dovetail joints, period-correct brass hardware, signs of natural ageing and patina, and the absence of modern machine tool marks.

This versatile item functions effectively as a sophisticated hallway console, a compact writing desk, or an accent table beneath a statement mirror in a living space.

Maintain the timber by dusting with a soft, dry cloth and periodically treating the surface with traditional beeswax, avoiding direct sunlight and high humidity to prevent wood splitting.
