Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A lowboy is a small table with drawers, introduced in the 18th century during the Georgian period. Designed to function as a dressing table or side table, it typically features a shallow central drawer flanked by deeper side drawers and supported by slender legs.

Georgian lowboys were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany or walnut, featuring oak or pine as secondary lining woods for drawer interiors. Hardware typically consisted of cast brass swan-neck or batwing drop handles.

Authentic 18th-century lowboys display hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, uneven saw marks on rear panels, and hand-forged brass fittings. The underside of the top often reveals tool marks consistent with period hand planes rather than machine manufacture.

A lowboy can serve as a hallway console, a bedside table, or an accent piece behind a seating arrangement. Layering the surface with modern ceramics or contemporary artwork creates an engaging contrast against the historic woodwork.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the timber patina. Avoid placing the piece directly adjacent to radiators or in direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and veneer cracking.
