Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Tekke Turkmen rug is a hand-knotted tribal textile originating from Central Asia, crafted by the Tekke nomadic tribe. These rugs are traditionally recognized by their deep red or rust ground colour and repeating octagonal medallion patterns known as gols.

These rugs are woven almost entirely from hand-spun wool, including the pile, warp, and weft. Natural vegetable dyes were historically used to achieve the rich crimson, terracotta, navy, and ivory shades.

Authentic pieces feature a fine, dense hand-knotted structure, a soft wool pile, and specific geometric motifs including the primary Tekke gol. Variations in dye shades, known as abrash, and natural wear patterns consistent with age also indicate authenticity.

A Turkmen rug serves as a foundational textile in eclectic, traditional, or contemporary spaces. It grounds neutral furniture arrangements, contrasts well with dark woods, and adds warmth to hardwood or stone flooring.

Vacuum gently without using a rotating brush bar to prevent pulling the fibres. Rotate the rug periodically to ensure even wear, clean spills immediately with a damp cloth, and consult a specialist rug cleaner for deep restoration.
