Bears Grease Majolica Advertising Jug

Description

Here we have a rare bear baiting advertising jar and cover, modelled as a large bear clutching a snarling dog between its forepaws, chained to a grassy base, a titled banner to one side inscribed Bears Grease, the head lifting as a cover. Bear's grease was a popular treatment for male hair loss from the mid 17th century.

The jar and cover are in very good condition.
