This 1930 Hollywood Regency occasional side table and integrated magazine rack serves practical functions in a mid-century modern home. Made from brass and mahogany-finished metal, the piece exhibits a warm metallic finish with a kidney-shaped top surface enclosed by a pierced gallery rail, supported by faux bamboo tripod legs that terminate in splayed feet. Scrollwork wire details form the magazine holder beneath the main surface, accompanied by a circular lower stretcher ring and decorative scrollwork finials at the top corners of the rack. Measuring 58 cm high, 46 cm wide, and 40 cm deep, the stand fits neatly beside an armchair or at the end of a sofa to hold reading materials and display small items.

Faux bamboo metalwork became prominent in European decorative arts during the nineteenth century and experienced a major resurgence during the mid-twentieth century Hollywood Regency era, blending Chinoiserie influence with modern metallic construction.

These pieces were constructed using solid or tubular brass formed to imitate natural bamboo nodes, completed with soldered joins, pierced gallery edges, and wirework cradles designed to support periodicals.

Authentic vintage pieces feature natural surface patination, hand-finished solder joints, age-appropriate tarnishing, and structural weight, contrasting with modern uniform electroplating.

Position the item beside an armchair or at the end of a sofa to introduce metallic warmth and functional storage while complementing contemporary upholstered seating.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding abrasive polishes or aggressive chemicals that could strip clear protective lacquers or alter the established patination.
