Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of 1920 Chinese regional accent stools comes in a warm brown teak timber with a clean wax finish and visible natural grain variations. Each barrel-shaped garden seat features openwork sides, a studded rim around the circular top, and a circular base ring resting on small feet. The structural details include curved wooden uprights and shaped aprons. These versatile pieces function well in a home today as side tables next to an armchair or as display stands in a sunlit conservatory. Measuring 46 cm high with a 30 cm diameter top, they fit easily into compact spaces while offering a distinct oriental silhouette.

FAQs

Originating during the Song and Ming dynasties, barrel-shaped stools, or drum stools, were used as versatile indoor and outdoor seats in traditional Chinese residential gardens and living quarters.

Traditionally constructed from dense tropical hardwoods like teak, rosewood, or ceramic, these seats feature complex joinery techniques with openwork carved supports.

Authentic wooden examples exhibit hand-carved openwork aprons, traditional joinery without modern metallic fasteners, carved stud details along the rim, and subtle variations in the grain.

A pair of wooden garden stools functions effectively as flexible extra seating, sculptural side tables beside an armchair, or decorative plant pedestals in contemporary living spaces.

Dust the wooden surfaces regularly with a soft microfibre cloth, apply a high-quality beeswax polish periodically to nourish the teak timber, and keep the seats away from direct heat sources to prevent movement.
