Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An 18th-century oak plate rack is a wall-mounted display framework crafted during the Georgian era to house and display ceramic tableware, pewter chargers, or delftware. These functional storage pieces were traditionally created by countryside joiners for farmhouses and cottage kitchens.

Joiners constructed these racks using solid native oak assembled with pegged mortise and tenon joinery. Common construction features include hand-planed backboards, moulded top cornices, and horizontal cross-rails fitted with narrow grooves to prevent plates from slipping.

Authentic pieces feature signs of hand-tooling, such as pit-saw marks, hand-carved mouldings, and irregular wooden pegs. Age oxidisation on the timber, authentic wear along shelf edges, and original wrought-iron mounting fixings further confirm period authenticity.

Position the rack on a focal wall above a console table or kitchen counter to organize art prints, studio pottery, or vintage earthenware. The rich wood tones create warmth when layered against modern plaster or muted paint backdrops.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying beeswax once a year along the grain. Avoid chemical cleaners and ensure the unit is positioned away from direct heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage.
