Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually, keeping the timber away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent drying, warping, or sun-bleaching.

Position the cabinet as an accent piece in a hallway, home office, or living area, pairing its rich timber tones with contemporary artwork or neutral walls to create a subtle contrast of historic and modern elements.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-sawn secondary timber linings, original brass or turned wooden drawer pulls, natural timber shrinkage along solid tops, and square tapered legs typical of the period.

Cabinetmakers during this period predominantly used Cuban or West Indian mahogany for the exterior, accented with boxwood or ebony stringing inlay, brass keyhole escutcheons, and secondary timbers such as oak or pine for internal drawer linings.

A Georgian collectors cabinet is a specialised piece of wooden storage furniture produced in Britain during the 18th and early 19th centuries, designed to store coins, medals, botanical specimens, or geological samples inside small shallow drawers.
