Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A girandole mirror is a decorative wall mirror featuring attached sconces or branches for holding candles, designed to reflect light throughout a room. Popular during the Regency era in the early nineteenth century, these mirrors frequently incorporated convex glass, giltwood frames, and classical motifs such as eagles or foliage.

These mirrors were constructed primarily from carved wood or composition ornament applied to a pine frame, finished with oil or water gilding using gold leaf. The inner frame often features an ebonised reeded slip housing convex silvered glass and brass candle branches.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit signs of hand carving, age-related wear or faint craquelure on the gilding, and original dark ebonised slips. Original mirror glass often shows subtle foxing or silvering degradation, while the reverse side usually features hand-planed wooden backboards.

Positioning a girandole mirror above a fireplace mantelpiece or a dining room sideboard creates a focal point that amplifies natural light. The gold leaf finish adds warm metallic contrast when paired with contemporary neutral walls or dark paint schemes.

Clean the glass carefully using a lightly dampened cloth, avoiding moisture contact with the surrounding frame. Preserve the delicate gold leaf finish by dusting gently with a soft feather duster, avoiding chemical polishers or abrasive solvents.
