Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A girandole mirror is an ornamental wall mirror featuring attached candle branches, designed to reflect light and increase ambient illumination in a room. Popularised in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, these pieces often incorporate convex glass and classical motifs such as eagles or foliate carving.

Traditional Regency girandoles were constructed from carved pine or lime wood coated in gesso and finished with water or oil gilding using gold leaf. The candle branches were typically cast in brass or wrought iron and mounted directly to the frame.

Authentic antique girandole mirrors display signs of hand-carving, original glass with characteristic light oxidation or spotting, and age-related wear or fine cracking to the gesso substrate. The reverse typically features hand-sawn timber backing panels rather than modern wood composites.

Position a pair symmetrically flanking a central feature, such as a large piece of artwork, a chimney breast, or a sideboard. The warm gilded tone and convex glass provide dimensional depth and classic balance against either neutral or dark wall finishes.

Dust the gilded frame lightly with a soft feather duster or dry pony-hair brush, avoiding liquid cleaners that can strip gold leaf or dissolve delicate gesso. Clean the mirror glass carefully with a soft microfibre cloth lightly dampened with water, ensuring no liquid touches the frame.
