Originating in the early 19th century, Regency convex mirrors are circular wall mirrors characterized by outward-curving glass plates, giltwood frames embellished with spherical studs (spherules), and ornate crestings often depicting eagles or foliage.

Frames were typically carved from softwoods such as pine or lime, coated with gesso and clay bole, and finished using water-gilding techniques with gold leaf. They frequently featured an ebonised wooden inner slip and hand-blown convex glass.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of hand-carved joinery on the rear pine backing, original water-gilding with subtle red or grey clay bole showing through worn areas, and heavy convex glass that creates a distinct wide-angle reflection.
