Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Convex mirrors feature curved glass that bulges outward, providing a wider field of view. They gained widespread popularity during the Georgian and Regency periods in the late 18th and early 19th centuries as decorative statement pieces.

Traditional convex mirrors were typically constructed with hand-carved wood or moulded composition plaster over timber frames. The frames were finished with water gilding using gold leaf, housing hand-blown curved mirror glass.

Authentic period pieces often show natural age-related wear to the gilding, revealing red or grey bole underneath the gold leaf. The glass may exhibit slight dark spots, distressing, or unevenness, while the reverse framing usually displays aged backboards with traditional joinery.

A gilt convex mirror creates a focal point when positioned above a fireplace mantel, sideboard, or console table. Its reflective surface bounces light across the room while the curved frame introduces classical architectural structure to contemporary spaces.

Dust the gilded frame gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or camel-hair brush, avoiding water or chemical cleaners that degrade gold leaf. Clean the convex glass carefully with a slightly dampened cloth, ensuring liquid does not seep into the frame edge.
